Day 1, Journey to Tamasek with Friendly Trouble

"Sorry, I forgot to bring my passport, so what should I do?". One of my delegates whispered near my ear. Eventhough not so loud, that news brought by that soft voice is shocking as if a lion roared instanstly in front of my face.

After being calm and trying to find the solution, we finally decided that she had to stay overnight at Juanda International Airport while waiting for her passport being delivered from other town near the Central Java. She would be given another ticket to Singapore for the next morning.

Not yet I had been able to breath away, another delegation, one of my students, Mauluda also had a problem. That was his PCR result or certificate was still written in Indonesian language. It means if someone goes abroad, the certificate must be dual language, Indonesian and English. If not, he or she will not be permitted to go abroad or visit other countries.

Well, that is the early story for this journey to Tamasek (Singapore). More than 15 students from SMA 1 Magetan and about 11 students from Islamic International School of Magetan are now attending the event of GYS-Global Youth Summit 2022 in Singapore. They will work hard to present their projects in the forum which attended by the Junior and Senior high school students among ASEAN Countries, including Indonesia.

The issues brought for the summit this time is about Sustainability Education in Schools. The International workshop will be held for about 4 or 5 days. Meanwhile, other activites like Presentation on projects, Cultural Performances, Song and Dances as well as field trip to explore Singapore area is offered nicely. The participants of GYS will have had amazing experiences for sure.

Back to Mauluda's story, eventually, after I was having hard argument and negotiation about language used in the vaccine certificate, and also there was soft copy of certificate in English sent via PDF, he was allowed to have ticket to fly to Singapore. He was in rush running to catch his friends who already passed the security check. Mauluda only had 15 minutes to reach Gate 7 for his boarding or missing the flight.

I realize that going abroad in group, actually is not as easy as we thought. Just as example, the total number of luggages are more than the total number of the participants. How could it be? Just imagine, each students who joins into GYS 2022 in Singapore, mostly, bring 3 luggages with different size. That is why, the bus capacity with 30 seats is not able to be occupied because their luggages already take over the seats.

Like or not, I and Dhio, also 2 other students were standing forcely to go from Magetan town to Juanda International Airport. Now, my legs have the same size with my lunggage. What a tiring experience and trip to go abroad after pandemy. Anyway, journey should be done to bright our dull and gloomy life.
