C. Petunjuk Penggunaan Modul

Pada modul ini kita akan berlatih untuk mampu menafsirkan fungsi sosial, struktur teks serta unsur kebahasaan dari teks yang berisi ungkapan menawarkan jasa. Sebelum kita belajar lebih jauh, mari kita pahami terlebih dahulu petunjuk penggunaan modul ini:

1. Modul ini dapat Anda pelajari secara mandiri atau dalam kelompok, baik di sekolah maupun diluar sekolah.

2. Melalui modul ini, Anda dapat belajar menyimak, membaca, melihat dan mengamati contoh-contoh serta uraian materi yang diberikan.

3. Materi serta latihan-latihan dalam modul ini dapat Anda gunakan untuk berdiskusi, belajar, berlatih, dan bertukar informasi untuk memberikan dampak positif terhadap kemajuan belajar Anda.

4. Saat belajar membaca, menirukan bunyi, berbicara dan menulis, Anda tidak perlu khawatir atau takut untuk membuat kesalahan, karena hal tersebut merupakan bagian dari proses pembelajaran.

5. Selain materi-materi yang ada dalam modul ini, Anda juga dapat belajar lebih banyak dari sumber-sumber belajar lainnya yang bisa membantu Anda untuk dapat menangkap makna dan menyusun teks ungkapan menawarkan jasa.

D. Materi Pembelajaran

Modul ini terbagi menjadi 2 kegiatan pembelajaran (Learning Activity). Di masing-masing kegiatan pembelajaran, terdapat uraian materi, contoh teks, soal latihan dan soal evaluasi. Materi yang dibahas di kedua kegiatan pembelajaran tersebut sama, yaitu mengenai ungkapan menawarkan bantuan/jasa. Perbedaan yang terlihat hanya pada tujuan pencapaian kompetensinya. Pada Learning Activity 1 Anda akan berlatih untuk menemukan dan menganalisa fungsi sosial, struktur teks serta ciri kebahasaan teks ungkapan menawarkan jasa. Sedangkan pada Learning Activity 2, Anda akan berlatih keterampilan dalam menyusun teks interpersonal lisan dan tulis yang melibatkan tindakan menawarkan jasa dan menanggapinya. Berikut ini merupakan ringkasan materi pembelajaran yang akan digunakan dalam Learning Activity 1 dan Learning Activity 2

LET’S LEARN HOW TO OFFER HELP

A. Tujuan Pembelajaran

Setelah kegiatan pembelajaran 1 ini Anda diharapkan mampu:

1. Mengidentifikasi ungkapan yang digunakan untuk menawarkan bantuan/jasa.

2. Menemukan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan ciri-ciri kebahasaan dari teks berisi ungkapan menawarkan jasa.

3. Menangkap makna dari teks berisi ungkapan menawarkan jasa.

B. Uraian Materi

Pada Kegiatan Pembelajaran 1 (Learning Activity 1) ini kita akan membaca dan mempelajari beberapa dialog berisi ungkapan menawarkan jasa. Selanjutnya, untuk mampu menggunakan ungkapan menawarkan jasa dengan tepat, kita perlu mengetahui struktur dan ciri kebahasaan dari teks ungkapan menawarkan jasa. Untuk itu, ayo kita pelajari bersama.

Please read the following dialogue. Pay attention to the bold typed expressions.

Then, identify the expressions of offering help from the dialogue by completing the

table below the dialogue.

Dina : Hi Jalal, have you finished your English assignment?

Jalal : No. I haven't. We still have one more week to finish it, don't we? What about you?

Dina : Are you kidding me? The due date will be tomorrow. I have finished mine and I’ve just submitted it to Ibu Naning. Do you need any help with your assignment?

Jalal: Of course. Well, I plan to talk about Global warming. I will explain the process and and the phenomenon of it.

Dina : That's a good idea. What can I do for you, Jalal?

Jalal : I think you can help me with the report. I am a bit confused with the report format. Can you please explain it to me?

Bagaimanakah jawaban Anda untuk Practice 1? Tidak sulit bukan untuk menemukan ungkapan menawarkan jasa serta responnya. Coba Anda periksa sekali lagi hasil kerja Anda. Pernyataan 1, 3, dan 5 merupakan ungkapan menawarkan jasa (offering help). Pernyataan

2 dan 4 merupakan ungkapan untuk menerima tawaran bantuan/jasa. Sedangkan pernyataan 6 merupakan ungkapan untuk menolak tawaran bantuan/jasa. Nah, apakah Anda sudah mampu menjawab Practice 1 dengan benar? Anda hebat!!!

Sekarang, coba Anda baca lagi contoh-contoh ekspresi untuk menawarkan bantuan serta responnya yang ada di Practice 2. Ulangi hingga dua atau tiga kali sampai Anda benar-benar bisa melafalkan ungkapan-ungkapan tersebut dengan benar. Anda dapat mengecek cara pelafalan beberapa kosakata yang masih belum Anda ketahui cara pelafalannya dengan membuka kamus atau mengecek di Internet.

Bagaimana? Apakah sudah bisa? Awesome!! Kalau begitu, Anda siap untuk melanjutkan kegiatan pembelajaran berikutnya.

Anda tentu dapat dengan mudah menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan di atas karena semua jawaban dari pertanyaan-pertanyaan tersebut ada dalam teks yang sudah Anda kuasai. Sebelum melihat ke pembahasan soal, Anda terlebih dahulu bisa mendiskusikan hasil kerja Anda dengan teman, guru atau orang tua Anda.

Sekarang, mari kita bahas bersama-sama.

Pertanyaan nomor 1 menanyakan tentang setting dari dialog. Jawaban untuk pertanyaan ini adalah at school karena Jalal dan Dina sedang membahas mengenai tugas Bahasa Inggris mereka dan Dina mengatakan kalau dia baru saja mengumpulkan ke Ibu Naning (I’ve just submitted it to Ibu Naning).

Jawaban untuk pertanyaan kedua adalah about offering a help karena keseluruhan isi dari diaog tersebut adalah tentang menawarkan dan memberikan bantuan.

Selanjutnya, jawaban untuk pertanyaan ketiga adalah he has problem with his English assignment. Anda juga dapat melengkapi jawaban Anda dengan penjelasan: he has not finished his English task whose due date is tomorrow.

Pertanyaan 4 menanyakan bantuan apa yang diberikan oleh Dina kepada Jalal. Maka jawaban yang tepat adalah he helps Jalal with the report because Jalal is a bit confused with the format.

Selanjutnya, untuk pertanyaan 5 masing-masing dari Anda bisa saja memiliki jawaban yang berbeda-beda. Namun secara umum seseorang membantu orang lain untuk meringankan beban yang dimiliki oleh orang tersebut serta untuk menjaga hubungan baik antar keduanya. Sehingga, Anda dapat menjawab Dina helps Jalal in order to ease Jalal’s burden and to maintain good relationship between them.

Untuk nomor 6, jawaban yang tepat adalah Jalal receives Dina’s offer to help him with the report. Sedangkan, jawaban yang tepat untuk pertanyaan nomor 7 jawaban Anda bisa saja bervariasi dan Anda bisa saling membandingkan jawabanmu dengan punya teman. Secara umum, the benefits of helping are maintaining good relationship, connecting one to another, and sharing happiness.

David : First we train our legs, arms, and stomachs. We run up and down 1,000 steps and do press-ups. The training is very hard.

Mack : How do you understand the teachers? Do you speak Chinese? I speak Chinese a bit, I can possibly help you.

David : I am okay. I speak a little. But the teachers speak English so I do not have a problem. Mack : Great. Anyway, when do you have breakfast?

David : At half past seven. We have rice and coup. We have a short test and training starts again at nine o’clock. We practice hitting with our hands and kicking with our feet. Then we have lunch and a long rest.

Mack : Oh, that’s a really rigid schedule. I wish I could help. Anyway, do you train in the afternoons too?

David : Yes, I like the afternoons because we train with sticks and swords. Mack : Is it dangerous?

David : No, not really, because we don’t fight.

Mack : When does training finish?

David : At six o’clock. We have a shower, and have dinner at half past six –rice and soup again- then we go to bed.

Mack : What do you want to do when you go back to Britain?

David : I want to start a kung fu school in London and teach people kung fu. I also want to appear in films as a kung fu fighter!

B. Uraian Materi

Pada Kegiatan Pembelajaran 2 (Learning Activity 2) ini Anda akan diajak berlatih menyusun teks dialog berisi ungkapan menawarkan jasa dan responnya. Kegiatan yang akan Anda lakukan diantaranya mengerjakan latihan untuk memberikan respon untuk beberapa situasi yang memungkinkan penggunaan ungkapan menawarkan bantuan. Anda juga akan berlatih menyusun teks dialog Anda sendiri. Apabila Anda menemui kesulitan dalam mengerjakan latihan dalam kegiatan pembelajaran ini, Anda dapat membaca kembali uraian materi di kegiatan sebelumnya. Kegiatan pembelajaran 2 ini lebih menekankan pada praktik menggunakan ungkapan-ungkapan
