Day 2 Blessing In Disguise
The second day, Sun rose reluctantly and little came late to touch 1st Onand Rd at Geylang Serai Region, Singapore. However, my 15 students had already got their breakfast and then completed the Environment Projects which were prepared by 4 teams. Each team consisted of 3 or 4 members.
Their effort to practise, provide the research, the material and others without my helps reminded me about the story of 47 Ronin from Japan who fought for their pride without having their lord or a leader. At least, my students had their spirit to do their best for the presentation.
After joining into Global Youth Summit many times in different countries all over Asean and Asia Pacific, I found something different about the running of the program being held. All activities had to be done outdoor, including the presentation and also the cultural performances. As I had known since 2014, the event of Global Youth Summit which was conducted once or twice a year with different countries as a host always be held indoor.
The program which mostly related to environment issues, such as waste management, water treatment, saving energy and recycling had never been run outdoor. The meeting room, or conference room at 3 or 5 stars hotel would be chosen as the representative place. Many participants wondered why this time event was different.
As we know, almost 2 years and half, Corona Virus Diseases 2019 or popular as Covid-19 which spread out all over the world made deadly impacts to the people. This viruses also suspected as contagious diseases which could be influenced by air, or direct physical contact to other people who could be suspected as the carrier.
Like or not, believe or nor, people tend to avoid the crowd, being in a room with many people, turning on the air conditioner and otherelse prevention. Nowadays, people already get their immunity due to vaccine, but somehow, they are still doubt to gather in a room with various races of people they meet. That feeling of fear is difficult to be ommited at once.
Now, the answer why event of Global Youth Summit-GYS 2022 in Singapore held outdoor is revealed. Participants, could be guessed that they will be uncomfortble if they are forced to wear mask all the time when doing the event. Moreover, the hall will be guarded by several Covid-19 Task Force to put their eyes on participants to stick on the Covid-19 protocol.
That is why, I felt ease when the event held outdoor. I knew that there were many participants coming from Asian countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapura, Cambodia even Nigeria, from Africa. We could do all activities freely and feel free to wear mask or not.
The schedule was also flexible compare to the events which was held before pandemy broke out. That is something we call "Blessing in Disguise". It means, When we think one thing is unpleasant, actually it gives us a lot of advantages than it seems.
