Isra' Mi'raj

Isra' Mi'raj is a two-part journey made by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in just one night. It is one of the important events for Muslims, because during this event Rasulullah received orders to pray five times a day and night. This event occurred on 27 Rajab in the eighth year of prophecy. Isra' means a journey, the spiritual journey of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH starting from the Grand Mosque, Masjidil Haram, to the Aqsa Mosque, Masjidil Aqsa. Meanwhile, Miraj' is a spiritual achievement towards Sidratul Muntaha, the highest place or state in the sky.

The Isra' Miraj' occurred after two of the Prophet's most beloved people passed away.  The two people were the Prophet's uncle named Abu Talib and the Prophet's wife, Siti Khadijah. Both were known as the most defended people during the Prophet's da'wah in Mecca. After Abu Talib and sayidah Khadijah had passed away , the Prophet's missionary journey became increasingly difficult.  That was because there were no longer people who defended him and became a consolation for him.  In the end Allah planned a spiritual journey for him.

In the book Qishshah Mi'rajin Nabi by Sheikh Najmudin Al Ghoidzi, it is depicted  that on the way from the Ka'bah to Baitul Maqdis, using Buroq, accompanied by Jibril, the Prophet Muhammad stopped in some places,  Medina, near Sajarah Musa where the Prophet Musa took shelter when being chased by King Pharaoh, Mount Sinai, and  Bethlehem, the place where Prophet Isa was born.

During his journey, in Isra ', the prophet saw several events that symbolized human actions in the world, both bad and good, and repayment for those actions. Some of them are as follow. The prophets saw a group of people who were planting crops and could immediately do the harvest.  It describes people who are striving in the way of Allah.  The Prophet also smelled a fragrant smell when he passed the grave of Masithoh, a woman who defended her belief in Allah.  The Prophet also met a woman who wore beautiful jewelery.  It describes a world that can neglect people from remembering their God.

After that, the prophet Muhammad PBUH did Mi'raj, through the sky of the world to sidratul muntaha.  In this process of Mi'raj, Rasulullah met with the chosen prophets in each sky as follows,  Prophet Adam in the first sky, Prophet Isa and Yahya in the second, Prophet Yusuf in the third,  Prophet Idris in the fourth, Prophet Harun in the fifth, Prophet Musa in the sixth, and Prophet Ibrahim in the seventh. In the end,  the Prophet Muhammad reached Sidratul Muntaha.  He received an order to perform the obligatory prayers 5 times a day, which became an important point of the journey that night.

From the explanation above,  we know that Isra' and Mi'raj are proofs of Allah's power to transcend everything without being limited by space and time.  The Prophet Muhammad PBUH performed the Mi'raj as a description of insan kamil (perfect man) who reached the point of absolute servitude to his Lord.
