The Lessons of Associating with Pious People (Tagur ke 51)

"Second, I know that everyone has a friend to share secrets with and complain about. However, the friend cannot keep a secret and doesn't want to help each other. So I make my good deeds friends so that they will be my helpers on the day of reckoning (reckoning), strengthen myself in the presence of Allah, and accompany me when I go on 'shirat'." The teacher said, "Good."

"Third, I know that everyone has an enemy, and when I look at myself, it turns out that my enemy is not the one who is gossiping about me. Nor is the person who wrongs me and hurts me, but my enemy is the person who, when I am obedient to Allah, tempts me with his disobedience. I see that it is the devil, the soul, the world, and the passions that do so. I make them my enemies, I keep myself away from them and I prepare myself to fight them. I will not let any of them come near me." The teacher replied, "Good."

"Fourth, I know that every living creature is being followed. And the one who follows is the angel of death. So I prepare myself to meet him so that when he comes, I can go with him without a hitch." The teacher said, "Good."

Fifth, I know people love and hate each other and I see people who love have nothing for their lover. I contemplate the cause of their love and hatred, then I know that the cause is physical (Jasad). I deny (physical causes) by denying the relationships between my soul and body, namely the relationship of lust. So I love everyone. I don't give up anything for them except what I please for myself." The teacher said, "Good".

Sixth, I know that everyone will leave their place of residence and everyone's fate will return to the grave. So I prepare all the deeds that I can do and that will make me happy in that new place of residence, beyond which there is nothing but heaven and hell." The teacher Shafiq al-Bakhhi replied, "Enough and do them (six things) until you die.
