The Strength of 'Ulama Part 3 A Syaikh Who Refused the Gift (Tagur17)

Once, Sultan Abd al-'Aziz came to Egypt and visited the Al-Azhar mosque.  He was accompanied by al-Khudaiwi Ismail.  While they were entering the mosque, al-Khudaiwi saw a Shaikh in charge of the mosque did not care at all about their arrival.  He sat back and stretched his legs out.  Al-Khudaiwi immediately reported the behavior of the Shaikh to the Sultan.

Hearing the report, the Sultan ordered one of his guards to give a bag of money to the Shaikh of the mosque, in order to attract his attention and inform him the Sultan's position.  When the guard approached the Shaikh to give the money bag, the Shaikh flatly refused the gift and said to the guard, "Tell the person who sent you here that the person who is stretching his legs does not want to extend his hands (does not accept the gift)."
