Last Sunday, November 25, 2018, the second day of the Writer Teacher National Meeting 2018 (TPGN 2018) held in Jakarta, in the morning about 7 a.m all of the participants of the meeting gathered at the National Monument for refreshing, taking pictures and gathering. They looked enthusiastic about visiting Monas. It was understandable as most of the participants coming from outside of Jakarta City. Then they took the advantage of the moment of the meeting to explore and get to know more about the city of Jakarta. The main event of the day was actually going to the National Library which was located at the opposite of the National Monument. No wonder the participants liked to spend their spare time to visit the monument since it was the closest tourist mascot in Jakarta that was worth visiting.

The National Monument is better known by Indonesian people with its abbreviation, Monas. This monument was founded to commemorate the resistance and struggle of the Indonesian people in the effort of gaining their independence from the Dutch colonialists. The shape is in the form of a monument with a crown of flame coated with gold. The feature of the monument can also be interpreted as a pair of "pestle" and "mortar", a rice pounder owned by a farming community in Indonesia. Such a design is a reflection of the distinctive dimensions of Indonesian culture. The height of the monument is 117.7 meters above a square runway or court plate. The runway has a height of 17 meters. This National Monument is located right in the middle of Medan Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta.

From the hotel where we stayed, Miss. Umi, Miss Yulia and Miss. Maharti, my friends from Surabaya and Pasuruan, and I promised to go together to the Monas in the morning. The distance from Monas to the hotel we stayed were only about 15-20 minutes away by car. After enjoying Lontong Lodeh, our breakfast menu, we ordered Grab (the brand of taxi) to take us to Monas. We dressed in black Specta Gurusiana T-shirt. And at about 6 a.m we headed to Monas using the Grab car. Thank God, it's not jammed. The driver dropped us off a bit far from the location. The road to Monas was closed. Car Free Day, said the Jakarta people. Okay, we went down on foot. Monas was very crowded. It were full of people who exercised on Sunday mornings, the big, small, young and old ones. The four of us were no less excited. We posed with ondel ondel, taking pictures in front of Monas, and chatting with fellow participants from various provinces in Indonesia. Well, travelling far away to Jakarta they should have made a lot of memories to remember. Most participants were from West Sumatra. They looked unique with their uniforms. It seemed that they were very enthusiastic about taking pictures with Monas as the background. Yea, the pictures could be the nice memories for their children and grandchildren. Hopefully next year this meeting would be attended by many writer-teachers from other provinces in Indonesia.

It's been for a while we were there. After being satisfied of taking pictures, we continued our trip, heading to the National Library.
