Procedure Text

Procedure text atau teks prosedur adalah teks yang bertujuan untuk memberikan petunjuk tentang cara melakukan sesuatu melalui tindakan-tindakan atau langkah-langkah yang berurutan.

Teks prosedur sendiri dapat berupa:

Manual menggunakan sesuatu (manual) Resep masakan (Recipe) Langkah percobaan atau eksperimen Langkah mengoperasikan program tertentu

Dengan mengetahui ciri-ciri teks prosedur di bawah ini, kita dapat membedakan lebih baik dari teks yang lain.

Umumnya, teks prosedur menggunakan bentuk waktu masa kini (simple present tense) dan lebih sering menggunakan bentuk berupa kalimat perintah (implerative) Karena teks ini menjelaskan langkah-langkah dalam melakukan sesuatu, maka kita perlu menggunakan kata penghubung temporal (first, then, nect, finally) atau penomoran sesuai urutan. Selain itu, teks ini juga menggunakan kata kerja tindakan (action verbs).

Structure of Procedure Text

Aim / Goal / Purpose (tujuan) Biasanya “Aim” dalam teks procedure sudah terlihat pada judul Materials and Ingredients (alat dan bahan) Berisi tentang daftar bahan dan peralatan agar tujuannya tercapai. Pada jenis teks procedure tententu, tahap ini bersifat optional, bisa ada atau tidak. Steps (Langkah-langkah) Berisi tentang langkah-langkah yang perlu dilakukan. Langkah-langkah tersebut dijelaskan secara rinci dan berurutan. Karena ini adalah procedure dan bersifat teknis, maka urutan langkah-langka tersebut sangat penting dan tidak boleh tertukar. Biasanya diawali dengan kata squence of time seperti first, second, third dan lainnya.
